Advocacy is a central component, at both the state and federal levels, in achieving the
American Cancer Society's mission. An unprecedented effort to raise the national profile of the ACS's
role in advocacy and survivorship is being organized called Celebration on the Hill.
Celebration on the Hill took place Sept 18 & 19, 2002. More than 3000 cancer
survivors and volunteers travelled to Washington, DC (including 28 from Watauga County)
to show in numbers how the American Cancer Society
is waging the fight against cancer in communities accross the country. This gathering served
as a call-to-action for our nation's elected officials. We made a statement, to say the least !
