"Jug of Fun" By Bill Thompson (58 and still running)
I ran the marathon back in 1971 or 72. The weather was
a challenge as it would rain on one side and be burning
hot over the next hill. I got pretty thirsty in the heat and the
course had road side stands selling items for tourists.
I purchased a large gallon jug of cider to handle my thirst
and swigged it on the course as I went along. Other
thirsty runners liked what they saw and we all shared my
jug and chugged as we jogged along. At the finish line
with the thousands of spectators all I could hear was
them asking what is that guy carrying as I brought my
jug to the finish line. The heat might have killed us
without my jug.
