The Grandfather Mountain Marathon and The Bear Run organizers have the vision to provide health and fitness opportunities through the promotion of specialized events benefiting charitable oganizations.

Chairman - John Weaver He is the Director of Track and Cross Country at Appalachian State University.
Coach Weaver is the RACE DIRECTOR. He is also responsible for the course including aid stations. Treasurer - Dr. Jim Deni He is a faculty member at ASU and is the only Board member to have run this marathon (he ran 5 times, placing 2nd and 3rd and never worse than 10th). He is our liason between the Highland Games. He is also responsible for the finish line crew and the presentation of awards. Peter Vandenburg He is an ASU staff member and is
responsible for your refreshments and food at the finish line. Cathy LaMarre: She is a computer programmer analyst and is responsible for the results and the WEB site. She has been a volunteer with this marathon for 20+ years. Thank you for your support !
